The kitchen is a place where you can learn about many aspects of cooking and using cookware. Add a cozy feel and a stress free way of working and you can enjoy your kitchen space whenever you are there.

I want to look at some of the modern and retro-designs of cookers and cooking utensils in this section of the website that focuses on the kitchen as a place to prepare and cook food as well as a place of learning, experimentation and food management as well as the modified approaches needed to use what you have in their fullest effectiveness.

There are new, modern ways of creating meals either quickly or slowly as you prefer as well as traditional methods that are as good today as they were in your great grandparents' days. I'll be looking at both ways as well as most everything between to provide you with a full range of cooking resources that you can use and benefit from.

For those that have a burning desire to return to "the old ways" of cooking and baking, there now exists specialist stores that can furnish you with wood burning stoves and ovens such as the agar style of cooker along with cast iron cookware that looks and feels wonderful.

There is nothing quite like home baked bread straight out of an old fashion wood oven!

Time to Cook

One of the scourges of modern life is the heavy tax on our time levied by stressful jobs that have us working long hours and often with a long and depressing commute either end of the working day.

This has many working moms reliant on ready to eat packaged foods bought from the store that they can have ready in minutes for the family meals. Unfortunately, these meals are full of artificial additives, too much salt and despite all the flavor enhancing agents, they still taste terrible!

While it may not be feasible to spend a few hours each day on work days in the kitchen cooking "real" food, there is time at the weekends for this. A whole week's worth of healthy, wholesome and great tasting home cooked meals can be created in a single afternoon at the weekend and refrigerated or even frozen for later use.

Using retro cooking and baking methods along with retro ovens and cookers, some amazing meals can be created for the family and it can even save a lot of money on buying all that artificial junk from the store!

If you've never tried it before, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!

Preparing Food Quickly

I'm not a big fan of "fast food" in any sense of the phrase, but I recognize that for some families, there just isn't time in the day for spending in traditional food preparation and cooking to produce those special, tasty, healthy and wholesome meals.

The microwave oven has revolutionized the way many people have their meals made hot (I'll refrain from using the term "cooked" in this sense... shudders) because it bypasses much of the time needed to actually cook food, yet manages to produce a hot meal in a couple of minutes that seems to satisfy a lot of people.

I won't go into my reasons for not using this method myself in this article, perhaps a good subject for an in-depth look at why microwaved food is not really fit to be eaten for a number of reasons!

However, even without using a microwave, it is still possible to prepare and create healthy meals fairly fast, as I'll look at in another article in this section of the site.

Kitchen Design

I'll also be looking into the many different ways of designing a kitchen from start to finish. Articles will cover all aspects of creative kitchen design including the many different styles that are available and some that you can literally create yourself using your own imagination.

Also covered will be the clever use of furniture, storage units and cupboards, color schemes and lighting to complete the picture of a beautiful and functional place to prepare and cook your food and in some cases to eat it too!

If you're thinking about designing a new kitchen from the ground up or are similarly considering refurbishing your existing one, this is a great place to start your search for ideas, advice from our own professional builders and helpful tips for avoiding the many pitfalls and obstacles that might get in your way.

I'll be covering the many kitchen appliances that are commonly found in kitchens up and down the country. In the modern day kitchen, you really can never have too many labor saving devices to make the work as pleasurable and hassle free as possible.
